Saxophonist and educator David Wells is a San Franciso Bay Area native residing in Maine. About the T.K. Melody saxophones he says, "After spending years looking for a new horn that really captures the great tonal qualities of vintage Selmers, I've finally found it in the T.K. Melody horns. The unlacquered "Yardbird" tenor I've been playing ranks with the Balanced Actions and Mark VI's I've owned in terms of sound, projection, key action, and overall vibe. The best part is that this horn is a fraction of the cost .... finally a horn I can recommend to my students who want the authentic sound and feel of a vintage horn without the price tag! I'm convinced this horn represents the best value in the saxophone market today."
David Wells began playing saxophone in Novato, CA as a fifth grader after studying piano from the age of four. He was blessed to study with two of the Bay Area's greatest saxophonists and teachers, Ron Stallings (Huey Lewis and the News), and fellow Novato resident Mel Martin (Saxophone Journal and Jazz Improv columnist). Aside from his teachers, David's earliest influences on saxophone were Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Gene Ammons, and Kenny Garrett. He graduated from San Marin H.S. in 1993 and played lead alto in the California All State Jazz Band that year. He continued his musical education at University of Colorado and California State University Hayward. As a student he had the honor of performing with an amazing list of musicians, including Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Conrad Herwig, Bob Berg, Louie Bellson, Red Holloway, Conte Condoli, Gerald Wilson, and Anthony Wilson. He also participated in clinics and masterclasses by greats Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, and Hal Galper. David has studied privately with George Garzone, Kenny Brooks, David Demsey, Larry Schneider, and Daniel Zinn.
